The kings of Europe

Ten days have passed since that momentous occasion when Liverpool F.C reclaimed their rightful position among the elites of European soccer  and it still has not sunk in. Yes, we are the champions, winning the Champions League for a fifth time is no mean feat. Being a Liverpool supporter since I was 12, I cannot express my joy in our triumph, in our being crowned the kings of Europe yet again; winning the Champions League for a fifth time means that ‘ol big ears‘ is ours for keeps.

The passion of the Kop is unsurpassed in football, its the fans that make Liverpool what it is. With die hard supporters from Melbourne to Mogadishu the face of the ‘Kop’ is more international than British. The rendition of ‘You will never walk alone’ by the Liverpool supporters will send goose-bumps on the backs of the opposing team. Win we did but the manner in which we won is surreal. Being 3-0 down at half time even the most staunch supporters had forsaken ‘The reds’ but come back we did and with a bang to win on penalties. The A.C Milan team-sheet impresses and intimidates but they lacked the hunger that we had for glory, this was one chance to redeem ourselves for not putting in a good performance in the league and ‘The Reds’ welcomed this opportunity with open arms.

It was destiny, the coincidences between this final and the last time we won are astonishing. The snatching of victory from the jaws of defeat will make this win forever a part of European soccer folklore. This amazing comeback to overcome all odds and beat the mighty Rossoneri left many pundits proclaiming that God is a Liverpool fan. They are absolutely right for I am, I am.

You Kahn do it.

Oliver Kahn, one of my favourite goalkeepers of all time; alongside the likes of Bruce Grobellar, Walter Zenga, Rene Higuita; is now embroiled in a bitter dispute with Jens Lehmann of Arsenal for the number one shirt. The whole oppugn started when Juergen Klinsmann, the current German coach wanted a battle of the best for the one number shirt.. Unfortunately both the players are trying to outdo the other, both are under immense pressure and are making unwarranted mistakes that are proving costly to their respective clubs. Klinsmann should change his plan to wait until shortly before the 2006 World Cup finals before picking a number one. I sincerely hope to see the German Shepherd Oliver Kahn in front of goal… he is on my list of favourite Germans which also include Hitler and Claudia Schiffer ;-)

Jaguar F1 Team bows out.

It’s a sad day for F1 enthusiasts as the curtain falls on one of the very illustrious marques of automobile manufacturers F1 outfits viz. Jaguar F1. This weekend the Jaguar Racing team will contest its final Grand Prix. The Brazilian Grand Prix will be the last time a team by the name of Jaguar will race although the outfit remains hopeful that a buyer will be found to keep the operation on the road for 2005. I’m a hardcore Ferrari fan and not a Jaguar fan but losing established marques is always detrimental to the sport. Anyways Jaguar F1; earth to earth; ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
